Together we celebrated European Cooperation Day in Zrenjanin

Serbians and Romanians, cross-border project partners and friends, met in Zrenjanin to take part in the European Cooperation Day together, an event that celebrates cooperation between local communities in border areas. The Interreg-IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Romania-Serbia Programme has organized this event that is addressed to people in the European Union and neighbouring countries, as is the case with the Republic of Serbia, for the eighth time.

About 150 people met on September 20, 2019 at the Zrenjanin Cultural Centre in order to discover, through documentary films, interesting stories from Romania and Serbia. The event was opened by several promotional films made within the Romanian-Serbian cross-border projects, followed by the presentation of two documentary films made by professional filmmakers.

In the presence of Irina Margareta Nistor, the film that represented Romania, Chuck Norris vs. Communism (2015), directed by Ilinca Calugareanu, presented the way in which Romanians discovered the magic of the film at the end of the ’80s. In an atmosphere full of emotion, Irina Margareta Nistor, film critic and main character of the documentary, held a dialogue with the people present at the event. The film presented from the Republic of Serbia was Nana (2018), directed by Miladin Colakovic, a documentary about a fulfilled life, a life that, despite great difficulties and constant struggle, had meaning.

European Cooperation Day is a communication initiative that takes place in the countries of the European Union and in the neighbouring countries, beneficiaries of the territorial cooperation programmes, which aims to promote the collaboration between the local communities in the border areas in a unique way. European Cooperation Day celebrations have been or will be held in dozens of European cities from Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Austria, Italy, Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Romania.
