The 10th edition of the European Cooperation Day was celebrated in Șișești, Mehedinți county. During the festive event organized on September 21, 2021, the results of the Romanian-Serbian cross-border cooperation were highlighted through the projects carried out by the local community together with the partners from Serbia.
The importance of capitalizing on cultural heritage and local traditions was presented by: Dr. Corina Răceanu, expert in the cultural field, Dr. Nicoleta Mușat, expert in heritage and cultural policies, and by Prof. Univ. Dr. habil. Camil Mihăescu, visual artist, dean of the Faculty of Art and Design of the West University of Timișoara. Guests from the Republic of Serbia shared their experience in the field of capitalizing on cultural heritage, expressing their intention to develop new cross-border partnerships in Mehedinți County.
The event was attended by representatives of the Managing Authority from the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration, Mr. Aladin Georgescu, President of the Mehedinți County Council, Mr. Marian Răducan, Mayor of Șișești Commune, Mrs. Corina Macavei, spokesperson of the Institution of the Prefect of Mehedinti County, representatives of the National Authority from the Republic of Serbia, as well as guests from local authorities, cultural and educational institutions in Kikinda, Mosna and Drobeta Turnu-Severin, museum curators, teachers, volunteers and potters, keepers of local traditions.
Volunteers from the “Gheorghe Ionescu-Șișești” High School presented their village to us and the collections of folk costumes, old tools, documents, photographs and ceramics kept by the local museum named after the scientist “Gheorghe Ionescu-Șișești.”

The event was organized in partnership by the Joint Secretariat of the Regional Office for Cross-Border Cooperation Timisoara, together with the Managing Authority of the Interreg-IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Romania-Serbia Programme, the National Authority from Serbia, with the support of Mehedinti County Council and Sisesti City Hall.
